I don't know if this is actually a bug but the following effect is not supposed to happen. In single race mode when you compete with more than one opponents and their cars are close to yours(including the starting point) you can hear an unpleasant noise mixed with the normal sounds.
I think this is distortion due to the sounds being too loud when combined with each other. I'll make an issue about it:
http://code.google.com/p/vdrift/issues/detail?id=134
i don't know if this belongs to the same bug, i rather ask before opening a new one.

if i'm playing vdrift in fullscreen or window mode (doesnt matter), and have music running, or especially when a libnotify-popup comes up (from IM), there is a huge annoying jitter, which then exists, as long as vdrift is running. only restarting fixes this. i fiddled a bit with the settings. the music volume was at 0.40 and the sound at 0.9. i turned the music volume to 0, which made this aknowledgably better, but didnt totally fix it. when the libnotify popup came up, jitter then started again as bad as it's been before config tweaking.
The Jitter sounds a bit as the issue described in this bug, like when the other cars already are a bit at distance.
hints? Smile
Tschaka: I think what you're describing is different. Is there a sound that is associated with the popup, or is it visual only?
joe: there is a sound associated with the popup. but as i said, this also occurs when i have music running, only not that bad.
i actually wouldnt care, if the jitter would only occur as long as the popup is opened or its sound played, but it then stays all the time.

maybe some more info about my machine:

ubuntu 8.10 32 bit, all updates
ALSA (got pulseaudio uninstalled)
vdrift build with scons
soundcard is an audigy 2

if you do need more, just ask.

edit: basically, this problem seems to occur generally when some other windows gets focused. when i'm running in window mode, and switching to an IM window, this occurs. it doesn't seem to occur when the IM sound comes up though. so it's rather a window switching issue i guess.
What desktop do you run? KDE or gentoo? Do you have ARTS running?
its gnome, no arts here.
Hum... no idea. I'll add it to the issue list as 137 and see if I can reproduce it.
