Any tips on how to modify a car to reduce understeering?
Sometimes it seems the car wont steer as much as expected and its difficult to stay on the track. But other times the steering seems fine. I'm using the keyboard (with held settings). It often gets too much understeering when you are trying to slow down for a corner.
Which car are you driving which understeers the worst? I've found the XS to be the worst, and I've done a lot to try to change this, with little progress. The problem is that the front wheels tend to slide out first, instead of the rear wheels. This is what should happen, really, if you're going too fast around a corner. However there should be a little more room to throttle through a corner without understeer - at least there should be less understeer. Joe has had some luck with moving the rear suspension hinge settings in the .car file for the GT and possibly the CS (I need to test both of them with my wheel...) that has helped gain a little oversteer. You're welcome to experiment with the values in the .car files for whichever cars you're interested in changing, and let us know what your results are. I'm not sure when the next time I'll get around to tuning cars will be...but getting the XS to oversteer more is one of my priorities.
Just to follow up on what thelusiv said, the suspension hinges were set all wrong on most of our cars, so they tend to understeer a bit too much. I've been tweaking the GT and the CS to fix this, but I don't remember if those tweaks made it into our last release. I don't think they did. One note, though: cars generally will understeer while you brake, and that's just a result of suspension geometry (car suspensions are set up to understeer when you brake and oversteer when you accelerate) coupled with brake balance (car brakes are generally biased to the front brakes). We don't have a handbrake (rear wheel only brake) set up yet.
