I drove some rounds with a standard gamepad and think the effect on the steering is too strong. The car agressively steers to the desired direction by slightly pushing one of the direction buttons.
Mostly the car brakes out after some two tiniest left/right direction changes.

Im looking forward ;D
Are you using the 2-11 version or are you compiling from SVN?

In 2-11 there were some options under Joystick settings in the menu that allow you to add some steering sensitivity to your joystick. In SVN, I recommend you try out the new steering sensitivity settings "speed-sensitive Low" and "speed-sensitive High".
Im not exactly clear about the '2-11' version - i am using the vdrift-2006-02-21 win32 version and i didnt compile from SVN.

Thanks for your support anyway.
Oops, sorry, I meant 2-21, not 2-11

In the menu, go to Options -> Controls -> Joysticks & Steering Wheels. Then select Touchiness Compensation. Start out with Low, then try Medium and High to see which one suits you best. If you are using a gamepad and not a steering wheel, 200 degree wheel mode will probably not do you a lot of good, but maybe you can try it anyway.

Hope that helps.
Are you using a gamepad with analog direction controls or a d-pad style that is either centered or full right/left? If it's the latter, then you're right, the turns are too extreme. We discourage driving with a dpad or with the keyboard controls. The latest version (to be released soon) does have more control options that may help, but the game just isn't suited to driving without analog steering control.
Yes, thanks, i meant a d-pad.
Ah, in that case, touchiness compensation will not help you any. At some point on down the line we might try to develop some more support for "digital" direction controls but it's not a high priority. Now if someone else wants to give it a try...
