I don't know if you know about Racer. A "simulator car game"? I don't like racer because too much errors and bad physics and it is not Open Source. But it have too much developers developing cars and tracks. You can take a look there and view if some of that cars and tracks are free and open source. So you can download a lot and modify. Than can help some. Of course, if that are open source. I like Open Source too.The cars and track page: http://www.racer-xtreme.comJust in past time I was think about developing a car game. Not only game, just some as Need For Speed but with a nice reallistic and IA, and of course multiplayer network possibility. But now, I see VDrift and I like it! really. When I got free time I will contribute with code, or models, or some. I'm a developer. I'm not expert in 3D but I know some and I like the cars too. I'm some expert in sound editing and capturing. I like too much the sound and I'm a music maker too.Ok, you will see about me here in a days... TongueFor now bye!!"
Thanks for your interest. I've seen the racer-xtreme site, and will start picking through the models there and contacting authors for original art. I have not found any way to directly import DOF files into Blender; until then I will have to get modelers to send me their originals which they may not like...
I had the same complaints about Racer. It tends to be a bit buggy and sometimes you'll be driving along and your car will flip out... if it were open source people could go in and fix the problems, but since it isn't, it's just stuck that way. Sad!

That's probably a good thing. The older the cars, the less likely the manufacturers are going to be interested in litigation against our little project here. I'm not real clear on how the law goes with copyrights etc. so it's better to play it safe and not have a whole lot of brand new cars...
From what I've read, having brand new cars is fine as long as we don't use the car's real name in the game. You can either use the car's appearance or name, but not both.

Also, I found out that Gran Turismo got licenses to use the car's appearance and name for free because it gave the car-makers publicity. Kind of neat. Maybe if the project gets much bigger we could do something similar...?

Unfortunately, the same thing occured in VDrift. When I was driving the MC, the car suddenly acted like I went over a bump when I didn't. Should I file a bug report?
We've seen this before, it's an issue with the collision detection code. We're looking into it but anyone else is more than welcome to take a shot at it...
