Ive noticed that sound doesnt work on power macs. havent tried R1824 yet though
Fixed tire squeal R1825. I forgot that I didn't add it back in. It also reminds me I haven't added tire smoke back in yet.
If you add back tire smoke, i will get less then 25fps on imola2005. We should discuss how to modify the graphics engine to perform better.
We need an option to disable tire smoke, this has been suggested before. There are a lot of new graphics features that will also need to be set up as optional in the Display Options menu.
was looking at REDLINE by ambrosia and noticed that REDLINE is similar to vdrift. it has skidmarks, some, sound and all yet i get VERY GOOD fps on tracks mountains such as weekend drive. something must be up with vdrift graphics for the fps to be hurt so much by smoke! i know some games where they use smoke to RAISE fps. maybe the smoke graphic looks to nice?
There are probably some ways to make the tire smoke more efficient, I'm not sure because I don't know much about that. I'm sure Joe will have some comments on this topic...
I would hope so! We will eventually think of a way... just remembered that in x-plane (flight simulator) it is done with different textures (at least for the clouds) so for the smoke "options" there can be low res, med res, high res, extreme res. Big Grin Big Grin
different textures? Maybe sprites?
I already said different textures. its very easy to make different textures so that should be tried out
The old particle system had a large amount of overdraw, which could be easily improved by a factor of 4 or so. It'd also be neat to fiddle with some volume rendering techniques... but that'd probably kill performance even more. :-)
Well then go for it! Good luck on whatever you try! Smile Smile Big Grin Big Grin
Tire smoke is added back in R1826. I did it in a way that should be a bit faster, and doesn't look too bad. Note that the algorithm for generation of smoke (i.e. when to spawn some smoke) is relatively poor....
Cool! Big Grin Big Grin About to check it out!
P.S. How do I submit my changes to the cars to the data svn? Modified the 3s a bit and made the breaks a bit more realistic. Big Grin
you need a sourceforge account and thelusiv has to give you the rights to upload things.

then just type svn commit (or svn ci), svn then asks for the password for your user. If thats not your sourceforge name just press enter and it will ask you for you sourceforge username. Enter username and password and it will automatically commit your changes.
Thanks For that. will check out later on as i have to do HW now.
