Now that we have libvorbis to support music playback, we need to find some music to play. I think the best way for VDrift to get music would be to ask independent musicians to "donate" tracks to the game in return for the publicity they'll get if players enjoy their tracks. There are tons of musicians on the internet with good music that nobody's heard of, spreading their tunes through MySpace, torrents or just MP3s for download on their web site. What do you guys think? Do we have any ameture musicians already enjoying the project?
I don't have anything solo that I'd consider contributible - however, I do work with two guys - one is a DJ/remixer who does break beat dance stuff, and the other is a rapper - both of them may be interested in contributing something. I'll talk to both of them.
Oh... chooseable music profiles... if you like rock or hiphop, soul or techno, we've got something for everyone Wink
I remember seeing a game where you were able to connect to your iTunes player and have access to your normal playlists and such. Memory escapes what game it was.

Obviously a no go on Linux but on Win and OS X it is a possibility I suppose.

What is the big music player is on Linux? I've been using GQMpeg exclusvely for my embedded carputer stuff but I don't think it is a very popular program. For desktop stuff I use iTunes (Mac) so am out of the loop for Linux DTs.

I dunno, just throwing the idea out there of having an interface to a "normal" mp3 player as opposed to trying to come up with royalty free tracks.

Wasn't there a web site with royalty free music or similar?

I haven't dug in to the licensing on referenced music, but at least some sites have the word "Free" in them.
reece146 this is done in REDLINE which is on OS X. good idea i guess. but driving noise will still need to be implemented.
