Hi,

as i asked in the channel: Do you guys know linux-gamers.net? I know the founder and i asked him if its possible to post a small note that vdrift is searching for designers.

I could write a small article about vdrift, the roadmap and the goals and then ask for people who would like to help creating a track and a car.

I would post and discuss the draft of the article here with you and if you corrected all my spelling mistakes send it to them.

What do you think?
Sure, sounds good. By the way, does anyone know if forum registration still broken?
Okay, new user registration is fixed now.
Thanks for reminding me that i wanna write an article about vdrift... totally forgot!
Ok, i made up a text:

Quote:The game "vdrift" aims to be one of the most realistic game on the market, not only for drifting, as the name may suggest, but for racing, against the time, against an AI or against other players over network and internet. We have no reason to compete with any commercial games, but as I said our goal is to be realistic as possible.

Our next release will be free from any license inconsistency, but to get that far we need you to help us.

What we need is one car and one track with a free license. If you know how to model a track or a car and want to make one for vdrift, or you already have one and would like to donate it to us, please join us on the forum http://vdrift.net/Forum/ or on IRC #vdrift on freenode.

If you're not a designer, but want to help developing the greatest racing game ever made, we would be very glad, if you'd join us.

I will send this to different news sites, when I have your approval. Please comment!

And I'd like to have a (small?) svn binary build for all systems by then so that interessted developers can have a look at the game.

Again: Please comment!
Well, we have a car, and we're working on a track - I think we need more cars and tracks, but one of each is a start. Do we still need more developers? Yes! Would it be good if I could make track designs that were easier for people to put into the game? Yes! (so I have some learning to do) - I think a small binary is a good idea. Of course, the minimal install is available for Mac on my website, but what about others?

I think the bit you posted should be revised some to reflect that we have things done beyond what you show here, and that we need to work on things like networking, etc.
yes, well I'm waiting for suggestions Smile
I've found that this template is useful:
http://www.gamedev.net/community/forums/..._id=449029

I'm not saying you should follow it exactly, but you want to make sure you hit all of the main points.
That's great! Thanks for the link, will write an improved version, soon.
Next draft:

Here's a revision:

Quote:Title: vdrift looking for artists

About VDrift:
VDrift is a cross-platform, open source driving simulation made with drift racing in mind. This game is in active development but is already very playable. Currently the game features:
* Simple networked multiplayer mode
* Very realistic physics
* Fully modeled tracks, scenery and terrain
* Many tracks and cars imported from other games
* Basic replay system with Skip Forward/Skip Backward
* Joystick, mouse and keyboard input filtering
* Driver aids: automatic shifting, traction control, anti-lock braking
* Highly configurable controls

VDrift aims to be one of the most realistic open source racing games available, not only for drifting, but for grip and rally racing as well. Play against the time, against an AI, or against other players over a network. VDrift is licensed under the GPLv2.

VDrift uses the following technology:
Programming
- C++ (g++)
- OpenGL
- SDL
- ODE
- Vamos
3D Art
- blender
- anything else that can export files blender can read

Help Wanted:
We are searching for artists who are willing to produce realistic models of cars and racing tracks. The game features several cars and tracks imported from other games but few original works.

No monetary compensation is provided, but participation in the project would make an excellent resume-builder. The last release of VDrift has been downloaded over 125,000 times and has been distributed on magazine CDs. Soon, VDrift will also included in major Linux distributions -- possibly with the cars and tracks you've designed installed by default.

Team:
Joe Venzon is the project creator. For a list of contributors see:

Now thats how I imagined it. Wink
Looks great...

But we should not forget to mention that we need audio artists, too. Somebody has to make crashing sounds and stuff.
Here's another revision:
