Full Version: Reverse Lights

I would like to see reverse lights in the game. I know it may be alittle pointless but it adds realism.
Hi, reverse lights might be cool. Right now the brake lights are just a swapped texture, so it would be easy to do this, however...it makes more work for car artists, and really is pretty pointless. I suppose one might see another car's brake lights if a car in front of them runs off track, then needs to go in reverse to get back on. But it would not be something seen often. Anyway, it is something that is not a high priority, but if someone would like to submit a patch and some graphics to do this, it will get reviewed and possibly added.
y'know, i'd much rather see the way lights are done changed. maybe a corona sprite* and a gl light source. car makers still have to do more work, but it's mostly positioning the vectors for where the lights are and perhaps where they point. and headlights would be do-able too.

then again, not sure how easy brake lights would be that way then since they're more of a glowing object than a light source.

The way it's done now could be supplemented with a light source to make it easier to import cars from other sources, and convert our existing cars to model brake lights. Likewise, it'd be nice to have a light source for the headlights. That way any modeler who chose to model headlights/brake lights could make them transparent and fancy as much as they want, and the simple cars would still work. I put a good bit of detail into the XS headlights, they'd look good with a light source...
oh, but I was able to do reverse lights in racer. Racer has alot of reverse ligths thanks to me. But I just used the existing textures and just placed them there. I just used the views.ini to do that but i wonder if its doable in this game.
