Hi,

as i asked in the channel: Do you guys know linux-gamers.net? I know the founder and i asked him if its possible to post a small note that vdrift is searching for designers.

I could write a small article about vdrift, the roadmap and the goals and then ask for people who would like to help creating a track and a car.

I would post and discuss the draft of the article here with you and if you corrected all my spelling mistakes send it to them.

What do you think?

Well I've looked through the file releases page and I can't create new packages. I'd like to reorganize all the releases and I need package editing permissions...only project admins can do that. What I'd like to do is structure it like gaim's releases which you can see here. basically, there would be a package for vdrift (we already have one), and one for the model pack. Under each package there would be releases with the files for the different releases associated with that version (source tarball, binary tarball, binary autopackage, binary deb, binary windows, etc.). So, could you add a package for vdrift-modelpack? Once you do I'd like to upload slightly renamed files restructure a bit, and hide the old releases.

There are a few ways we can do bug tracking. I can integrate one into the site, there is a plugin for Geeklog that uses Bugzilla. User system would be separate, which is an inconvenience...Yet another way is I could attempt to integrate the logins for Bugzilla or Flyspray into Geeklog, a little more work/time but probably not too hard.Or of course, we can just use the SF.net bug tracker. From my memory of using/administrating the tracker with GForge (open version of SF site software) it was kludgey and a pain. I've used Bugzilla briefly and it seems way overcomplicated to me...I've never tried Mantis or Flyspray but have heard good things about both. What do you think?

It's an automatic documentation creation tool, it can make docs from your source code. It creates HTML or linked PDFs.
I run a web server on my home DSL with many Geeklog sites similar to this one. On my most complicated sites page render time is something like 0.3 seconds where here it is 2 seconds at best for simple pages, or 5 to 6 seconds during heavy traffic times. Using the site is almost painfully slow...while I only get about 40 KB/sec max upload from here to most places, that is really all I ever get from the SF servers anyway, and the page render time is so much lower...it might be worth thinking about moving the site somewhere else, maybe not necessarily to my server (do you run a web server?) but I also have a server running on the university network which is not only faster than my server but uses their bandwidth, which is like a T3 or something. It's CLUG's server...anyway that's another option. The only thing is we don't have control over the DNS name vdrift.sourceforge.net so we can't just point it at a different server, we'd have to get a new domain name and redirect this one to it (either buy one or set up a subdomain somewhere). A quick check reveals vdrift.org is available...Either way I think the SF.net server will do for now, but I have a feeling if this site gets used much we're going to be wanting to move pretty soon.
